Before starting Darwin Workshop, I worked for a prestigious lighting company in the Kings Road, manufacturing high-end lighting for exclusive clients. During this time I became passionate about engineering products using sustainable materials and the plans for starting Darwin Workshop was formed. I now enjoy handcrafting small items such as lights, handles, exquisite compasses and solid brass padlocks.
I like to work with many materials but my favourite is Brass, as it is so versatile,
it is ideal for casting, welding, brazing and gives a mirror finish when polished.
Also different effects can be produced when different patinas are used.
The name Darwin Workshop originates from the view seen
from our property in a rural Kent village overlooking the fields of Downe Kent.
Where Charles Darwin picked flowers for his research and
resided for some forty years at Down House. The valley is now protected by the World Wild Life Fund and deer can be seen roaming daily through the valley.
